If you're in NY, a base layer is especially important because extra layering is crucial during winter months. To be honest, I didn’t start layering until a few years ago, and it changed my life.
Anyways, women have been practicing the base layer technique since the invention of the corset. Guys, start off with a tank top and a pair of long underwear. This is a base layer and will serve as a primer for what you will inevitably layer over it. The fabric-fabric contact causes the outer layer to be styled and fit how you choose. A bonus of doing this is that you don’t have to wash your outer layers as frequently. When wearing a t-shirt over a wife beater, skin contact is negligible, therefore sweat contact is negligible, therefore less washing, less water, less detergent, more money.
Go to Walmart right now and buy a pack of tank tops, a pair of long underwear, and two waffle knit thermal shirts. Thermals will also allow you to turn any short sleeve shirt into a long sleeve when layered.
While you're at it, buy a few white and black tees. Good quality ones from somewhere like UNIQLO. Blanks are important for those days you wanna act suspicious with no branding of graphic on your chest. Just a white tee and blue jeans type of day. The hoes will be so confused bro.
2. Try On All The Clothes in Your Closet
I too have a weird emotional connection to inanimate objects. You must learn to let go because chances are, you're never going to wear it again, and you'll forget about it as soon as its gone.
Go in your closet and act like youre going shopping. Try everything on, style it all together, and recognize the items that you don’t have feelings for. Sell it. Donate it. That extra hanger space is crucial. List it on Depop, Grailed, Poshmark, whatever, just liquidate it. More money to spend on Y2KSELLER.COM when it sells.
I definitely struggle with this, and I feel like a hypocrite writing this, but life is a work in progress, right?
3. Become Familiar With Your Measurements
In the world of vintage clothing and Japanese streetwear, traditional letter and number sizing can be deceiving. Take a soft tape measure and calculate your chest and torso length along with your waist, and desired inseam. Now when you’re scrolling my listing here on y2kseller.com, or over on my depop, you should know what the measurements mean.
To take this even further, take out your favorite fitting clothing item, and measure it up. Take note of the material and fabric give. Recognize that oversized garments measure bigger because, well, they're oversized. Notice that fitted garments measure smaller because they feature a fabric designed to conform to your body. A fashion major would say something about proportions and silhouettes, but I major in business, so I keep it 99% (sometimes I be fabricating).
So, that’s it for my weekly blog/article post. Sorry for missing last week, I blame school. Although, I should really just apologize to myself because my daily website visitors have been low in response. Also, nobody really comes here to read this right? If you do I love you.
